About Us

What makes JACASS

Our story.

The JACASS organisation consists of thousands of members as each trainee of our various member firms forms a part of the JACASS community. Each member firm is represented on the committee with two to four trainees from their firms. JACASS members consist solely of SAICA accredited training institutes (member firms).

Our Mission

To facilitate and grow the network of article clerks, encompassing all future Chartered Accountants.
This allows like-minded young professionals to interact and build long-lasting relationships while giving back to the communities surrounding us. All funds raised by JACASS are utilised in the upliftment of various charities.

Our Vision

It is the primary goal of each sitting committee to grow JACASS as an organisation to raise more money, create more networking opportunities and to uplift the trainees to become better Chartered Accountants into the future. Each year is a new opportunity to attract sponsors who share a similar vision of improving the lives of fellow South Africans, and therefore it is up to the committee to discover, grow and nurture these relationships.

Why JACASS?

We are a multi-focused organisation driven by a passion for networking, charity and mentorship. We offer CA stream article clerks an opportunity to make the most of their time outside of their day-to-day jobs by getting involved in our numerous initiatives and events throughout the year. By being a part of JACASS, or simply taking part in our events, trainees can build valuable, lasting relationships outside of their training office.

Our main focus is on the following 3 aspects.

Networking

Focused on creating the opportunity for article clerks to establish extensive, lifelong networks (both professionally and socially) this pillar focuses on hosting events that afford clerks the means to build these networks with individuals outside of their training office ‘bubble’. These events range from ‘hot topic’ speaker events and informative webinars to our legendary social gatherings.

Charities

In a sometimes-greed-driven world, we recognise our responsibility as an organisation to give back to those less fortunate than us which is how our charity pillar was born. We aim to make an impact in the lives of others, no matter how big or small that may be, with the hopes that we can do our part to leave society better than we found it.

Mentoring aspiring CA’s

As part of our call to do good, our final pillar was established with an aim of specifically moulding and mentoring a handful of varsity students who are on the same path as us – aspiring CA(SA)’s. Our mentorship programme wholeheartedly believes in providing emotional as well as educational support as opposed to purely financial support without other guidance. And who better to mentor aspiring CA(SA)’s than article clerks who are on the same journey and were recently in those students’ shoes?

Our Charities

Bokamoso Education Trust

The Bokamoso Education Trust is involved in supporting the schooling of disadvantaged children in South Africa. On a monthly basis, JACASS contributes on a monthly basis to the trust in order to finance the education of two young children throughout the year. At the end of every term, we receive their school reports to show the progress being made by our sponsored children.

Tshepang Care Centre

Tshepang Care Centre is a centre which helps to look after orphans and vulnerable children in Vusimuzi Informal Settlement in Tembisa. Tshepang Care Centre currently assists with feeding 200 children (between the Ages of 2 and 18 the number of children has changed to close to 400 following the financial impact of COVID on families living in the township.) within the community throughout the week. The care centre has grown in recent years, allowing for the full time care of a handful of children who have been orphaned. JACASS has been involved with this charity for a number of years. As a committee, we contribute a monthly allowance, enabling the care centre to feed its children on a daily basis. JACASS also hosts 3 events throughout the year, where we rent a jumping castle, and spend a Saturday with the children playing ball games, making lunch and enjoying a few special treats.
